Catriona Yule
Tormented by flies,
you hunch,
stroke his bludgeoned
cavities.
In weeping flesh,
you nuzzle;
a mud carcass
fouling the land.
Along the stumps
in his head,
your trunk lingers,
tendering.
Your head bowed,
friends silent,
there is nothing
to say.
You count each one:
bones,
a number screaming
inside you.
